Southern Riverina news - - NEWS - Judy Ryan

Judy and Paul Ryan travelled to Adelaide last Thursday to join in celebrations for Peter Starrs’ 80th birthday.

Peter was postmaster in Jerilderie many years ago, and will be remembered for his greyhound training establishment opposite the Jerilderie railway station.

The family moved back to Adelaide in the 1980s.

The party was held on Friday night at an Italian restaurant in Royston Park, and was attended by around 60 friends and family members. It included Peter’s three surviving children — Lorna, Garth and Adam — and Peter’s second wife Madeleine.

The siblings are successful teachers at Adelaide schools, following in the footsteps of their mother Ann, who was killed in a car accident in Adelaide about 20 years ago.

Ann and Peter’s eldest son, Ben, died some years later while cycling, due to a heart condition.

The family have many happy memories of their time in Jerilderie.

Peter Starrs and your correspondent share a birthday on January 30.

The Ryan family celebrated Judy’s three quarters of a century, with dinner at the Colony Inn Hotel on the day prior to the trip to South Australia.

Well, schools are back and life is returning to some sort of familiar pattern — not the least of which is meetings!

A couple of organisations picking up the threads again are the Catholic Women’s League which will meet this Sunday after the 10.30am Mass, and Jerilderie Hospital Auxiliary on Thursday, February 22.

Friends of Brian Moloney are pleased with the news that he has returned home to Yarrawonga after a bit of a health scare. Brian is doing well!
