The Savernake community continued its Australia Day tradition of hosting a delicious Australian barbecue breakfast at its hall.

This year saw 90 local residents and guests of all ages enjoy good food and social time together.

The morning began with Andrew ‘Jock’ Tom, representing the Yarrawonga Lions Club, making a presentation to the Savernake Hall Committee.

Presented to committee president Christine Gorman, the cheque for $2,072 was from the proceeds of the Lions Club Wool Show, held in conjunction with the Yarrawonga Mulwala Agricultural Show in October.

The funds will be used to purchase equipment to enhance the recent refurbishments to the hall.

After breakfast local piper Graeme Stewart played the National Anthem — on his newly purchased set of blackwood pipes — while two long-time residents, June and Janet Gorman, raised the Australian flag.

Mr Stewart also played a selection of Australian and Scottish songs, to the enjoyment of the crowd.

It was a delight to see so many local residents, former residents, friends and family as well as guests from Japan participating in such a friendly gathering.
