Dees claim huge scalp

Southern Riverina news - - LOCAL CLASSIES -

Jerilderie has maintained their spot in the Murray Valley Cricket Division Two top four, claiming a crucial eight wicket win over second placed Nathalia in Jerilderie on Saturday.

The Dees lost the toss and were sent out to bowl.

Frazer Pinnuck struck early, sending Nathalia opener Jamie Hardy back to the pavilion for a duck.

The Purples settled however, with the next wicket falling when they reached 65 in the 16th over.

The Jerilderie bowlers kept toiling away and at the close of Nathalia’s innings, the Dees had kept them to a gettable score of 7/155.

Main run getters for Nathalia were Lloyd Buchman (39 not out), Brian Boyd (36), Samuel Boyd (25) and Matthew Lumberg (23).

Luke Keating (2/21 off seven) was the only multiple wicket taker for the home side, while a wicket each was taken by Frazer Pinnuck (1/27 off three), Mitch A’Vard (1/23 off four) and in a great bowling spell from young Shirsho Roy, taking 1/28 from six overs.

Jerilderie’s opening batsmen got off to a good start with A’Vard playing an intelligent knock, farming the run chase to Dave Pasin.

Pasin eventually ran himself out after making 46 runs, with the score at 68.

A’vard also fell to a run out shortly after, but from there Blair Henery and Jordy Anthony dug in to take Jerilderie’s score past the required total runs needed, with two overs to spare.

Henery carried his bat with a well compiled 63, with Anthony on 17 when the game was won.

Next week Jerilderie have another home match when they take on Katamatite, in another must win game.

Sacred Heart swimmers Liam Purtill, Sarah Johnson, Annie McLeod, Oliver Almond and James Robinett.
