Toc. pair out of state fi­nals

Tocumwal An­drea Brown and Chris Philpot rep­re­sented the club in the State Mixed Pairs on Sun­day at Stan­hope.

They won their first match in the morn­ing and went on to play John Stokes and Mia Nowosad, the Goul­burn Val­ley rep­re­sen­ta­tives in the af­ter­noon.

Af­ter a nail bit­ing 15-15 go­ing into the 18th end, they just missed out by one shot.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to the pair for a great cam­paign for our club and dis­trict.

The Ladies Triples were fi­nalised last Mon­day with a win to Effie Ea­ton, Ch­eryl Towns­ing and Pat Mor­ri­son over Pam van Huizen, Liz Anderson and Judy Harvie.

With one more week to play our pen­nant teams are hav­ing mixed luck. Re­sults from this week­end are as fol­lows:

Fri­day Di­vi­sion One - Tocumwal Golf 1 de­feated Ba­rooga Sports 1, 77-64. Tocumwal Golf 1 are first on lad­der.

Fri­day Di­vi­sion Two - Tocumwal Golf 2 de­feated Nu­murkah Golf 2, 64-62; Tocumwal Golf 3 were de­feated by Cobram 2 72-54. Tocumwal Golf 2 and Tocumwal Golf 3 sit sec­ond and fifth on the lad­der re­spec­tively.

Satur­day Di­vi­sion One - Tocumwal Golf 1 de­feated Nu­murkah 1, 91-90. Tocumwal Golf 1 are sev­enth on lad­der.

Satur­day Di­vi­sion Three - Tocumwal Golf 2 de­feated Ba­rooga Sports, 94-53; Tocumwal Golf 3 were de­feated by Jer­ilderie 97-55. Tocumwal Golf 2 and Tocumwal Golf 3 sit sec­ond and eighth on the lad­der re­spec­tively.

Satur­day Di­vi­sion Four - Tocumwal Golf 4 had a for­feit from Strath­mer­ton. Tocumwal Golf 4 sit eighth on the lad­der.

Men’s 21-Up is pro­gress­ing with Sun­day's win­ner Col Far­rer through to the next round.

Now the weather is cool­ing down a lit­tle we can all look for­ward to some won­der­ful au­tumn bowl­ing.

Ber­ri­gan Tough go­ing for our ladies mid­week pen­nant go­ing down to Nu­murkah in Nu­murkah 84-56.

Ber­ri­gan lost on all three rinks with Elaine Hawkins’ rink downed 20-17, Glenys McKay’s side beaten 28-21 and Nan Dart’s team beaten 36-18.

The Satur­day pen­nant Di­vi­sion Four team had the bye and Di­vi­sion Two were home to Nathalia and were de­feated on all rinks 125-67.

Mick Bush’s side was nar­rowly de­feated 24-19, while Graeme Cle­ments (33-13), Rick Brad­bury (36-22) and Barry Hutchin­son’s (32-13) teams were soundly beaten.

Next week all teams are at home for the last round with our ladies play­ing Finley RSC, Di­vi­sion Two play­ing Nu­murkah Two and Di­vi­sion Four play­ing Nu­murkah Three.

Our ladies club cham­pion Glenys McKay will be play­ing the Re­gion Fi­nal at Shep­par­ton Park on Sun­day.

McKay has a bye in the morn­ing game and will play the win­ner from Cen­tral and Goul­burn Val­ley af­ter lunch.

Early re­minder we will be hold­ing the Garry McLen­nan Men’s Three Bowl Triples on Satur­day, April 21.

Finley The pen­nant bowls com­pe­ti­tion has now only one more round be­fore the fi­nals be­gin.

Cobram was too strong for Finley in round 13 last Fri­day, 64-84, with Finley downed on all rinks.

De­spite the loss Finley re­tained fourth spot on the lad­der, with a 13 point gap be­tween them and fifth placed Ba­rooga Sports 1.

Lad­der leader Tocumwal will travel to Finley this Fri­day for the fi­nal round.

In the week­end com­pe­ti­tion, Di­vi­sion Three con­tin­ued on its win­ning way when it de­feated Cobram 85-58, with all teams win­ning.

Di­vi­sion Four Team 2 suf­fered a de­feat by Katan­dra, 31-52, while Team 3 had a close game at Cobram be­fore go­ing down by one shot, 38-39.

For round 14, the teams cho­sen to rep­re­sent the club are as fol­lows:

Di­vi­sion Three - Finley host Tocumwal: B Smith (s), S John­son, H Tabe, R Koschel; G Close (s), T Miles, B Robin­son, B Anderson; A Haines (s), B Mi­son, N Smith, J Mont­gomery.

Div Four - Team 2 will travel to Nu­murkah with trans­port leav­ing at noon: R Wood (s), A Cowan, D Mul­roney, B Wike; N Barnes (s), T Hans­ford, S Mont­gomery, H Tay­lor.

Team 3 has a bye but hold sec­ond spot on the lad­der.

The C grade cham­pi­onship will be played on Fri­day evening at 5pm be­tween pres­i­dent Lawrie Walsh and Alan Cowan.

In ear­lier rounds Walsh de­feated Daryl Mul­roney and Cowan de­feated Karl Bergmans.

Both games were keenly con­tested with slen­der mar­gins at the end.

En­tries are now be­ing taken for the Vet­eran Sin­gles Cham­pi­onship, for those bowlers over 70 years of age. The list is on dis­play.

The Easter pro­gram is avail­able. Play will be Open Pairs on Good Fri­day and then Open Triples on Easter Mon­day.

The car­ni­val is spon­sored by JT & EN Close to co­in­cide with their celebrations of 125 years of ser­vice to the dis­trict and be­yond.

Four gen­er­a­tions of the fam­ily have been Bowl­ing Club play­ers as well as be­ing in­volved with the ad­min­is­tra­tion of the club.

The El­lis Thorn­ton Me­mo­rial Ro­tary Bowls con­test is in mo­tion today.

It has at­tracted teams from neigh­bour­ing clubs which is ap­pre­ci­ated and so fit­ting for this spe­cial oc­ca­sion.

In­ter­ested peo­ple are wel­come to come and en­joy af­ter­noon tea af­ter the bowls.
