Dees twos overrun Bloods

-

It was a tale of two halves in the reserves game between Jerilderie and Tocumwal at Tocumwal Recreation Reserve on Saturday.

The Bloods shot away in the first half and could have kicked the Demons out of the game, but poor goal kicking let them down in Picola & District League round three clash.

Tocumwal held a comfortable 22 point lead at half time kicking 4.10 (34) to the Dees’ 2.0 (12).

The Demons were determined to make it three wins in a row to start their season and kicked three straight goals to the Bloods’ three points and it was a tight seven point Tocumwal lead.

However, the Dees showed true class in the last quarter kicking three goals and keeping the Bloods to just the one point to run away as 11 point winners.

For Jerilderie, Luke Keating kicked a bag of five on one leg and Lachie Watson was once again rock solid at full back.

Andrew Neessen had a great game, coming up from the Jerilderie thirds and coach Dick Hercus played well, driving the ball forward.

Peter Absolom kicked two goals for the Bloods and Glyn Matters, Jesse Barker and Tom Hatty were among their best players.

Final score, Jerilderie 8.1 (49) to Tocumwal 4.14 (38).

It was a fast paced game with the young Demons competing well against a slick Tocumwal side in the Under 17s.

Josh Rochford continued his great early form and Glenn DiLullo was solid, providing drive out of the backline.

Ben Browning and Ben Neessen both showed their class with polished ball skills and Alex A’Vard lifted the team when thrown in the middle after half time.

Best players for Tocumwal were Mitchell Reilly, Zander Griffin (three goals), Tom Barker (one), Drew Eddy, Bailey Mason (three) and Connor Crowley (one).

Final score, Tocumwal 17.15 (117) to Jerilderie 3.0 (18).

The young Demons again came up against a much taller Tocumwal side in the fourths and despite their bigger opponents, the Demons fought hard.

Zander Nash had a great game on the ball while Tex Flack and Hugh Wettenhall battled hard all day in the backline.

Travis and Justin Lawton ran all day and never gave up.

Play of the day went to one of the smallest players for Jerilderie, Darby EdwardsParsons, who laid a great tackle on a much bigger opponent.

Tocumwal’s best were Blair Eddy, Maksym Eddy, Braydie Wright, Chase Hardwidge (two goals), Nicholas Noonan (one) and Angus Bourchier.

Final score, Tocumwal 7.5 (47) to Jerilderie 1.2 (8).
