The Deniliquin Ute Muster’s birthday wish has come true, with organisers of the annual ‘Play on the Plains’ landing US country superstar Carrie Underwood (pictured) as the headline act for the event’s 20th year.

Festival general manager Vicky Lowry said Underwood heads up what is being described as the Ute Muster’s ‘‘biggest party ever’’, with a huge weekend of music and around the grounds fun planned for the two days — Friday, September 28 and Saturday, September 29.

Underwood — a former American Idol winner — will wrap up the event as the final performer at the Saturday night concert.

‘‘It’s going to be a huge celebration and it’s great for Deniliquin to once again get a superstar international act for the Ute Muster,’’ Mrs Lowry said.

‘‘Carrie performed alongside Keith Urban when she toured Australia two years ago, and Keith has been the most popular act we’ve ever had on the Muster stage.

‘‘I went to their concert two years ago and anyone else who went would also say she was just amazing.

‘‘Carrie is releasing her next album in midSeptember, so it ties in well with our event — we’re very excited to have her at the Muster.

‘‘It’s always exciting to celebrate a special milestone, and muster patrons of all ages will not be disappointed with the entertainment — 15 hours each day of around the ground activities and Australian and International musical acts.

‘‘Whether it’s your first Deni Ute Muster or you’ve been many times before, or it’s your 20th, you’ll be part of the memorable celebrations of Australia’s most iconic event.’’

Underwood will share the famous Muster main stage with Kasey Chambers, Busby Marou, Troy CassarDaley, Thirsty Merc, Gord Bamford, Travis Collins, Fanny Lumsden, The Pigs, Amber Lawrence, Doug Bruce & The Tailgaters and Kirsty Lee Akers.

Underwood emerged from the promise of her 2005 American Idol win to become a true multi-format, multi-media superstar, spanning achievements in music, television, and film.

She is a seven-time Grammy Award winner who has sold 64 million records worldwide and recorded 26 number one singles, 13 of which she co-wrote.

Earlier this year, Underwood released the hit event anthem The Champion, featuring Ludacris, to open NBC’s Super Bowl. She also recently took home her 18th CMT Music Award (Female Video of the Year for The Champion) and her 14th career ACM Award (Vocal Event of the Year for The Fighter, her collaboration with Keith Urban).

Underwood’s sixth studio album, ‘Cry Pretty’, is set to be released on September 14 and its title track has already topped the iTunes Top Songs charts in 12 countries and racked up over 1.3 million streams in the US.
