Adventure Park a funding priority
The establishment of the proposed Barooga Adventure Park has been earmarked by Berrigan Shire Council as a priority for government funding.
Under the state government Infrastructure Grants program, council has applied for $300,000 towards the project which is part of the planned development of the Barooga Foreshore.
Council has already received $150,000 this year from the Stronger Country Communities fund for the foreshore development.
At last Wednesday’s council meeting, councillors were presented with 10 projects to consider for recommendation for a funding application.
Despite the long list of projects, council decided to push ahead with an immediate application for the Barooga Adventure Park.
Director of corporate services Matt Han- sen said many of the projects presented to council were too early in planning stages to be considered.
‘‘Most of the other projects required more planning and costing before a good application could be considered.
‘‘A project seeking funding in general should be properly scoped, accurately costed and have all its planning permissions in place,’’ Mr Hansen said.
Council also agreed to apply for $200,000 towards building new changerooms at the Finley Showgrounds, however the application will be lodged at a later date.
Council will need to decide whether to demolish the current changerooms or refurbish it.
Mr Hansen said council still has long term plans for the showgrounds site.
‘‘The council hasn’t ruled out applying for funding for the Finley Showgrounds under the Infrastructure Grants program.
‘‘Before it does so however, it wants to have some alternative proposals.’’
He said once the preferred outcome had been decided council would make a decision on applying for funding.
There was also a recommendation for council to seek funding to install new lights along the Tocumwal Foreshore levee bank.
Mr Hansen said the lights wouldn’t meet the criteria of the available funding streams but council would find a way to work the project into future planning.
‘‘The lights and bollards will be considered in the detailed planning works for the Tocumwal Foreshore pathways project.
‘‘Once cost and feasibility has been determined, council will then consider if it would go ahead and how it would be funded.’’
