Undefeated Wildcats finish on top
The Finley Wildcats secured top spot on the ladder following round 13 of the Shepparton & Districts Junior Football League Youth Girls competition on Sunday.
The Wildcats put on yet another dominant display, travelling to Euroa to finish their home and away season with a 45 point win.
Onballer Eloise Ashley-Cooper was Finley’s best, slotting two majors for the day, with Hayley Doohan continuing her consistent year in defence.
Lucy-Jayne Burdon celebrated her birthday with two goals in a strong performance with Elle Brooks also playing well.
Closing out the better players were Nicola Denny and Grace Leeds, while Olivia Cicolini (two goals) and Sammy Rourke (two) were the other goalkickers.
Final score, Finley Wildcats 8.4 (52) to Euroa 1.1 (7).
Wildcats coach Jorja Daniel said she was proud to see her side stand tall in what was a physical contest.
‘‘We started off well and got the jump on Euroa,’’ she said.
‘‘It was a tough and physical game, which would explain the scoreless second quarter from both teams.
‘‘The way we handled it though was great. It was probably one of our best team performances for the year.
‘‘To finish on top undefeated and get the double chance in finals is just amazing.’’
The Wildcats will have the bye this week before playing in a qualifying final against either Echuca or Shepparton United at Mooroopna on Sunday, August 5.
