Berrigan Gold Cup fast approaching
The biggest race day in the Southern Riverina is fast approaching with the Berrigan Cup set to be on the first Saturday in November.
Berrigan Cup Day is the perfect opportunity for punters to back a winner and for ladies to show off their colourful dresses.
The Gold Cup is a special event on the NSW country racing calendar because it shares the day with the premiere race day in the country, the Victoria Derby at Flemington.
Assistant Secretary Janine Murphy said Berrigan Cup Day is a prime example of quality country racing.
‘‘The club has been moving progressively forward looking towards a bright future of country racing at its best.
‘‘The track is being meticulously prepared for the big day with horses travelling from New South Wales and Victoria.
‘‘The grounds are in pristine condition and are ready to welcome the crowd of eager punters and partygoers.’’
This year all private marquees are still available until this Friday, however for the first time the Berrigan Race Club is opening a public marquee.
For just $15 per person you can reserve a place on a table with a maximum limit of 10 people per table — ideal if it’s a hot sunny afternoon.
Patrons must pay for their ticket for the marquee before the event.
This year’s racecard will feature six races with a spread of sprinting to middle distance races including the $15,000 Gold Cup.
The ever-popular Fashions on the Field will be running again this year, a great opportunity for the ladies to show off their best dresses, frocks and fascinators with a share of more than $3000 in prizes.
Gates open from 11am ($20 entry, $10 aged pensions, children under 16 enter free).
