Fun family environment at Finley Cricket Club
Nothing is quite as Australian as playing cricket in summer.
Boasting a long history with the Murray Valley Cricket Association, the Finley Cricket Club offers a great family environment for cricketers of all levels, including juniors.
The club has entered five teams in the MVCA for the 2018/19 season, which started earlier this month.
The Division One and Division Two teams are for senior players, while the Under 16 is a combined team with Jerilderie, Under 14 and Under 12 teams cater for juniors.
Training for seniors is held every Tuesday and Thursday from 5.30pm with spots still available in the sides.
Coming off the back of their first win for the season the Division One team will play Berrigan at the Finley Apex Sports and Community Centre oval tomorrow night starting at 5pm.
Division Two will be playing its first game of the season this weekend against Jerilderie on Saturday afternoon at Monash Park, Jerilderie starting at 1pm.
The two teams will be playing for the Pat Mac Cup. The cup is contested each time the two sides meet, with the Demons winning the past three encounters.
Club president Matt Whitty said the Finley Cricket Club is a friendly club and encourages new comers.
‘‘We have great facilities and a friendly atmosphere.
‘‘There’s a good group junior player coming through. It gives you something to do on the weekend.
‘‘We’re a very social club and have really instructive coaches to help improve the younger players.’’
The club will also be running a Milo T20 Blast cricket competition suited to kids aged 7-10 years this season.
A date is still to be confirmed for the Blast competition with the younger kids able to learn more about the skills of cricket to prepare them for Under 12 cricket in the future.
T20 Blast games are played on Saturdays.
