Finley/Jerilderie’s U16s Combine Cats continued their fine form when they took on Tocumwal in round two of the Murray Valley Cricket Association on Friday.
Batting first the Cats got into some early trouble, at one stage being 5/27 in the 13th over.
Alex A’Vard (22) kept the score ticking over until he fell with the score on 33.
It was left to Ed Haynes (23 not out) and Will Sexton (17 not out) to guide the Combine Cats into safe territory.
The pair put on 45 to finish the 20 overs 6/78.
The Cats had a job to do with the ball and they got a double break through to have Tocumwal 2/9 in the third over.
Jack Andrew (28) and Tom Barker (15) took the fight to the Cats bowlers putting on 50 and when Barker was dismissed Tocumwal only needed 19 off five overs.
This would prove to be a little too much for the Bloods with some tight bowling by Ben Neessen (1/4) and Shirsho Roy (2/1) getting the Cats across the line by four runs.
There is a general bye this coming weekend for the Berrigan Cup, with games resuming on November 10.
