Funding helps speed up recreational development
Work on a major tourist attraction in Barooga has started earlier than after a funding boost from the NSW Government.
A $489,000 cash injection from the Stronger Country Communities Fund will fund works on an adventure-style playground through to stage three.
Berrigan Shire Mayor Matthew Hannan said once completed, the six-stage development would attract young families to the area.
‘‘This is something which will enhance the experience for visitors and we want Berri- gan Shire to be a place that is inviting and attractive as a whole,’’ Cr Hannan said.
‘‘It will be great for the locals too, both in terms of them to be able to utilise the playground but also value-adding to the existing hospitality businesses in the area.’’
Cr Hannan said the playground would be a drawcard for the community and expected further applications for funding to propel the works.
‘‘It’ll be a good day trip for families because it’s something different to do along the river,’’ he said.
