Museum committee honours
It was a 50th birthday celebration like no other, as the Finley Log Cabin and Museum celebrated in style on Saturday with an Open Day and plaque unveiling.
The day began with the usual speeches and presentation with Austin Evans MP assisting Henry Matheson OAM, with the unveiling of the plaque.
This was followed by Chris Braybon, president of the committee, installing two new life members in Doug Thomas and Colin Drury.
Certificates of appreciation for service to the museum were presented to Bill Braybon, Allan Matheson and, Ken Jenkins.
The rain and cold we had experienced leading up to the day subsided and Saturday arrived bright and sunny with a cool breeze keeping the temperature just right.
On arrival guests were greeted by a display of vintage cars and motorbikes and the delicious smell of the obligatory sausage sizzle wafting through the air.
Children were treated to face painting and play dough games, while members of the museum were on hand to explain exhibits and show guests around.
The day continued well after the estimated conclusion time with visitors still arriving after 3.30pm. A wonderful day was had by all. Well done to the committee for its planning and hard work to make it such a happy event.
The Log Cabin and Historical Museum is open Saturdays and Sundays between noon and 3pm or by appointment.
The Finley Follies Life Ball teams would like to thank the Finley Men’s Shed for their continued support and generous donation of a large fan.

The Finley Golf Club opened its doors for the Finley Hospital Auxiliary 80th anniversary luncheon last week.
There were several special guests in attendance representing the Finley community and auxiliary members, and volunteers such as Life member Marj Kable.
Guests included Murray Region representative and deputy state president Marion Dickens, Sid and Anne Dudley from the Local Health Advisory Council and Finley Hospital manager Ashleigh Perring.
A moment of silence was observed by the gathering in memory of vice president Annette Bain. Annette passed away recently, and her positive attitude was an inspiration to all.
She will be sadly missed by those who worked with her.
Speeches were presented by Leslie Wilson who regaled the guests with stories of the past and a history of the auxiliary and the shop. Ashleigh also gave a very entertaining and yet interesting speech.
In all, a marvellous day was had by all. The auxiliary would like to thank all who attended and send a very special thank you to the Finley Golf Club ladies for catering.
Stay tuned I think I see a lot of fun history coming out of this event.
The Finley Hospital Auxiliary Shop’s 80th anniversary celebrations are coming to an end with a Super Special Birthday Bonus Sale from November 28 to December 8.
Everything store wide will be on sale at half price.
I went and had a bit of a sticky, as they say, on Saturday and was amazed by the quality and variety of goods on sale.
Great prices and great bargains for everyone - the shop is open Monday to Friday and half day Saturday.
Can Assist Finley branch wish to thank all businesses and individuals who have so generously donated goods, vouchers or money for the recent raffle nights held at the Finley RS Club and the Finley Bowling Club — both very successful in raising money to add to the funds to offer assistance to anyone in our local area with cancer.
It is estimated that it costs country people five times as much as their counterparts when dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
Distance from specialists, doctors and treatment centres all make the costs much more for country people.
The group can offer financial assistance to meet treatment cost, doctor’s accounts, even car repairs and car running and transport costs, household utilities or whatever you are having trouble paying for to at least ease the financial concerns during this worrying time.
Applying for assistance is simple — complete a request form, available from the local branch, attach a letter from your doctor or health provider or social worker, attach a copy of the unpaid account and send it in with supporting documents to our branch.
Applications are dealt with quickly and confidentially.
There are now 57 Can Assist branches throughout NSW run by over 3000 volunteers all who are greatly appreciated.
Everyone is welcome to attend the meetings, held the first and third Wednesday of each month at the Finley Bowling Club from 2pm.
The next meeting is Wednesday, December 5.
Thank you to all who contributed to this week’s column.
