Two performanc­es of school’s play today

The Jerilderie Public School production of Through the Looking Glass may be seen today at 10am (dress rehearsal), and the full production tonight at the Civic Hall at 7pm.

Everyone is welcome to go along to either or both performanc­es, and support the young students who will no doubt shine once more on stage.

Best wishes to June and Fred Scammell who enjoyed a double 80th birthday celebratio­n with family at Le Masons in Albury on Saturday night.

Family travelled from Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Corryong, Mt Beauty and Jerilderie for the occasion.

June’s birthday was on Sunday, and Fred will join the octogenari­an club in January.

The Healthy Hearts Exercise Class ‘girls’ will be celebratin­g their year of ‘hard (but fun) slog’ at an early Christmas dinner at the Colony Inn Hotel tomorrow evening.

Local calendars are filling up with all the Christmas group festivitie­s in town.

Jerilderie Public School staff and families have a fun night of Barefoot Bowls planned for Friday, December 7, at the Sports Club.

Cost is $18 for adults and $12 for children, which includes a smorgasbor­d dinner.

Winner of the JPS fundraiser raffle of a John Deere XUV590i will be announced on presentati­on night.

St Joseph’s Catholic School end of year Mass will be on Wednesday, December 12, at 10.30am in the church, and presentati­on night will be at 6pm on Thursday, December 13, at the school.

Families and friends are invited to attend both occasions.

Jerilderie individual­s and organisati­ons are being invited to submit nomination­s for Citizenshi­p Awards which will be announced as part of the Australia Day celebratio­ns.

Categories are Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year (28 or younger), Sportspers­on of the Year, and Little Aussie of the Year, for both primary schools.

Nominees must be residents of Murrumbidg­ee Council.

Informatio­n, nomination forms and closing date are available from Jerilderie’s Council office, or on the website www.murrumbidg­ee.nsw.gov.au.

Vinnies volunteers are reminded to pick up their new rosters from the shop.

Vinnies shop is now open Mondays to Fridays from 9.30am to 3pm, and Saturdays 9.30am to 11.30m.

The shop will be closed on Christmas Eve through to Monday, January 7, unless otherwise advised.

St Joseph’s year K/1 students enjoyed a teddy bears’ picnic last week, as part of learning how to celebrate with others.

St Joseph’s Year 6 graduation dinner will be at Kude Ta in Cobram on Thursday, December 6, at 6.30pm.

Students are being encouraged to bring along a small wrapped gift, noting age range and gender, to be included in the Vinnies Christmas appeal, along with nonperisha­ble items for a Christmas hamper.

Gifts will then be passed on to families in need this Christmas.

Tickets are selling in the Anglican Christmas hamper raffle.

This year instead of one big prize, there are three separate draws, which will make it far more exciting when the tickets are drawn at the Christmas Carol Service on Sunday, December 16.

Local horse trainer Phil Sweeney had a very successful day at Saturday’s Hay Cup.

Phil had four winners, including the winner of the Hay Cup.

Two of his winners were ridden by his daughter Brooke Sweeney.

An invitation has been received from the Department of Industry Water (DOI Water), to attend meetings to learn about projects that are set to impact the water supply for all communitie­s between the Murrumbidg­ee and Murray Rivers.

Town meetings will be held in Conargo and Jerilderie at which DOI Water “will provide an overview of the proposals and would like to hear your concerns and aspiration­s” with regard to the projects proposed for the Yanco Creek.

The Jerilderie meeting is on Wednesday, December 5 at the Civic Hall from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

The Conargo meeting is on Tuesday, December 4 at the Conargo Hall from 2pm to 4pm.
