Equality and respect

Southern Riverina news - - NEWS - ~ Contributed by Stephen Renn of the Finley Presbyterian Church.

In today’s world we hear a lot about the importance of maintaining equality and respect between men and women, and how the failure to sustain these two interpersonal and social attitudes has led to a great deal of anguish, suffering and ill-feeling.

One of the most endearing features of the Judeo-Christian tradition is the profound respect and dignity that the Holy Scriptures afford to women.

The Bible makes it clear that men and women are wholly equal in the sight of God — fully equal in value and identity.

The reason? Because both male and female are created in the image of God.

There are differences of course, but these are to be found in societal function, not individual worth.

The more we are able to reflect on, and apply the values of equality and respect, the greater will be our capacity to eliminate the twin evils of inequality and disrespect amongst men and women.
