Pre-Xmas Li­ons honours

Jer­ilderie Li­ons Club mem­bers hosted a Christ­mas break-up din­ner meet­ing at the Jer­ilderie Ho­tel.

Join­ing mem­bers and their wives were spe­cial guests like Dis­trict Gover­nor Judy McKerrow and her hus­band Ron from Lake Charm Li­ons Club, three mem­bers from De­niliquin Li­ons Club, in­clud­ing Zone Chair­man Daryl Whate­ley and his wife Lyn.

Other guests were Mur­rumbidgee Coun­cil gen­eral man­ager John Scarce and his wife Lau­rie, and Cr Faith Bryce and her hus­band John.

Dur­ing the evening, Judy pre­sented Mile­stone Chevron Awards to Paul Ryan (10 year ser­vice) and Lou Ro­rato (40 year ser­vice).

A cheque for $10,000 from Jer­ilderie Li­ons was pre­sented to Faith Bryce for the In­de­pen­dent Liv­ing Units project.

At the in­vi­ta­tion of Jer­ilderie Li­ons pres­i­dent Louis Kelly, Mr Scarce gave a brief but in­ter­est­ing out­line of his ca­reer which has cov­ered many coun­cils in Aus­tralia and in Canada where he worked pre­vi­ously.

Prior to the Li­ons meet­ing, Judy had pre­sented a Me­mo­rial Can­dle to the fam­ily of the late Harry Slee­man, a found­ing mem­ber of the Jer­ilderie Li­ons Club.

Harry was re­mem­bered at the 2018 Li­ons Con­ven­tion in Co­huna, with other Li­ons mem­bers who had died dur­ing the year.

Me­mo­rial can­dles were pre­sented to at­tend­ing clubs, to be passed on to fam­i­lies of the de­ceased mem­bers.

Li­ons Club cal­en­dars for 2019 are be­ing de­liv­ered around town and dis­trict.

The Makatak Christ­mas raf­fle was drawn on De­cem­ber 14, and thanks have been ex­pressed to ev­ery­one who sup­ported this fundraiser for many great causes.

Win­ners were: He­len Neil­son, Ap­ple iPad, 1; Noeleen Bradley, Karcher pres­sure washer and win­dow cleaner, 2; Vanessa Ed­wards, IGA $150 voucher, 3.

Jer­ilderie Pub­lic School fin­ished the year with pre­sen­ta­tion night and a fam­ily bar­be­cue. At the school’s year 6 farewell din­ner two stu­dents — Abbey and Ge­or­gia — were farewelled by their teach­ers and Year 5 stu­dents. Mrs Amanda O’Con­nor, the Year 3-6 teacher for 2018, was thanked for her con­tri­bu­tion dur­ing the year, and is leav­ing the school with the good wishes of the JPS com­mu­nity.

The 2019 School Cap­tains are Chelsea and Dan, with Kate­lyn house cap­tain for Al­gudgerie, and Mon­tana house cap­tain for Colombo.

Pre­sen­ta­tion night re­sults will ap­pear in a fu­ture edi­tion.

Tif­fany Sut­ton was the lucky win­ner of the JPS Christ­mas Ham­per raf­fle.

The P&C raf­fle of the Ga­tor was won by Richard Fletcher of Coleam­bally.

Stu­dents will re­turn to school on Jan­uary 30, 2019.

Best wishes to those hav­ing birthdays dur­ing the hol­i­days — Steve Dalgleish, Jan­uary 1, Hamza 6, and Re­han 19.
