Lightning sparks blaze
Lightning on Saturday afternoon is believed to have caused a fire near Jerilderie, which was not discovered until Sunday evening.
The fire was noticed about 6pm Sunday at the Thurrowa Rd Reserve.
Starting as a grassfire, which thankfully only managed to burn two hectares while unattended, the fire moved into nearby timber.
Firefighters from the Bolton, Cadell and Ardeen Rural Fire Service brigades responded with four appliances and heavy machinery, and with logistical support from Jerilderie RFS.
By 11pm Sunday they had managed to control the fire enough to hand the site, off the Newell Highway, to the Local Land Services to continue monitoring.
A grassfire believed to have been started by burning rubbish on Saturday afternoon escaped into a neighbouring Finley property.
The fire started in the yard of a Murray St home about 2.30pm.
Finley Fire & Rescue NSW firefighters spent two hours bringing the grassfire under control.
They say it was lucky only grass was burned in the blaze, confirming no infrastructure was damaged.
