Blighty build taking shape

Southern Riverina news - - LOCAL CLASSIES -

The development of a new netball and tennis facility at the Blighty Recreation Reserve has begun.

Made possible by the Edward River Council’s Stronger Communities Fund Major Projects Program, works on the state of the art facility were started late last year.

Deniliquin company Precise Build has been appointed to do the work, which will include a large verandah and windows overlooking netball and tennis courts and football field.

The concrete slab and foundations were poured in late December, with the frame set be installed this month.

With the lock-up stage planned for March, Blighty Netball Club president Vicki Ackers was excited to see the works commence.

‘‘It’s absolutely fantastic that we will have new change rooms and other facilities,’’ she said.

‘‘There will be separate change rooms for our teams and the visiting teams with each change room having showers and toilets.

‘‘The umpires will also have their own change room.

‘‘The facilities we have will also include a family room where spectators can oversee the netball courts and footy field.

‘‘The whole facility is going to be bigger than what we’ve previously had so it’s very exciting.’’

The project was allocated $550,000 from the council’s Stronger Communities Fund major projects program, more commonly referred to as ‘merger money’.

The upgrades are expected to complement the existing football clubrooms.
