Southern Riverina news - - NEWS - Judy Ryan

Jerilderie netballers and prospective players are invited to a pre-season Skills Development Day with Ovens and Murray playing-coach Georgie Bruce at Monash Park this Saturday.

Junior grades will be from 9am to 10.30am, with Under 17s and seniors from 11am to 1 pm.

There will be a light lunch and drinks to follow. Netballers are asked to bring their own hats, drink bottles and towels. Contact Meagan for more information on 0457 859 294.

The heavens opened and dumped a tropical rain storm on the town, putting gutters and downpipes to the test on Saturday night.

Cars parked in the main street had a free car wash while trees and gardens benefited, looking sparkly and fresh after the storm washed away all the dust.

Jerilderie Tidy Towns will have its first official meeting for the year at Luke Park at 6pm tomorrow. New members are always welcome.

Jerilderie Physical Culture Club will hold a registration and information night for all ages, at the Jerilderie Gym from 5pm to 6pm next Wednesday, February 13.

Schools are back and Jerilderie Public School has welcomed two new students, Sarah and Caleb to the Kindy class. Also welcomed is Miss Alison Jeffs who will be taking Years 3 to 6. We hope they all enjoy their integration into the Jerilderie community.

Miss Jo Cameron will be teaching Kindergarten to Year 2, and Ms Nyree Taylor will be providing Learning and Support, and Release from Face to Face.

In September, the Jerilderie Public School will be celebrating its 150th year.

Former students, teachers and families are being invited to share their experiences at the school, and to attend various activities and get-togethers over the same weekend as the Jerilderie Gold Cup race day. Information may be shared on the ‘Jerilderie Public School 150th’ Facebook page.

The JPS community has sadly farewelled Mrs Hilary Knight, who has taken on a part-time position at Finley High School. School administration manager Mrs Judy Knight will be in the JPS office on Tuesdays from 9.10am to 1pm, and Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9.10am until 3.30pm. The office is unattended on Mondays.

JPS is running an Intensive Swimming Program for all students at the local pool every school day from 2pm to 3pm, with the exception of this Friday when the school will be taking part in the Small Schools Swimming Carnival at Yarrawonga, hosted by Mulwala Public School.

There was much activity at St Joseph’s Catholic School over the Christmas holidays, with tradespeople coming and going. Students and teachers returned to repainted and refurbished classrooms and facilities. More St Joseph’s news next week.

If you enjoy a game of golf, but don’t fancy playing in the blazing sun in 40 degree heat you may be tempted by the opportunity to join in some Twilight Golf.

Starting this Friday at the Jerilderie Sports Club from 6pm, Twilight Golf is proposed to run for the next six weeks if enough players show interest.

There will be 10 time slots, with teams of four to six players at $5 per player.

For more information, or to register, ring Gina on 0419 367 271 or John on 0427 933 004. Food and drink at club prices will be available.
