Jerilderie Sports Club recognition
The Jerilderie Sports Club was presented a Distinguished Service Award by the Good Friday Appeal last week for helping raise just under $300,000 for the past 28 years.
Former deputy director Good Friday Appeal Emoke Bakacs presented the committee with the award at the club on Wednesday.
Every year the Jerilderie Sports Club hosts its annual Good Friday Golf Day, and the volunteers needed to raise just $4000 this year to reach the $300,000 milestone.
The event is one of the biggest fundraisers for the club and usually attracts golfers from across the region, including Berrigan, Finley, Tocumwal and Deniliquin.
Last year the charity day included barefoot bowls, an event that will return this year.
Sports Club committee member Victor Stonnill said the club members were delighted with the recognition.
‘‘Jerilderie is a small branch so it’s nice to see we’ve received this award for not just our members but also supporters,’’ he said.
‘‘We’re proud of how much we’ve raised and we’re planning to continue that for many years to come.
‘‘The lady who presented us the award, Emoke, said she was just starting with the Good Friday Appeal about 28 years ago and was proud she’s been with us along the journey.’’
The Jerilderie Good Friday Appeal Golf and Bowls Day is on Friday, April 19.
