Over­tak­ing car rolls

Two peo­ple were trans­ferred to the Goul­burn Val­ley Hospi­tal in Shep­par­ton on Satur­day af­ter their car rolled and hit a tree.

Po­lice say the driver, who they con­firmed re­turned a neg­a­tive blood al­co­hol read­ing, lost con­trol of the car while try­ing to avoid a col­li­sion.

The driver was at­tempt­ing to over­take a truck on the Newell High­way near the McPher­sons Lane in­ter­sec­tion at Jer­ilderie about 9.30am Satur­day, and did not see an on­com­ing ve­hi­cle.

Too late to aban­don tak­ing over, the driver was forced to swerve off the side of the road to avoid a col­li­sion.

The car went down an em­bank­ment be­fore rolling and hit­ting the tree.

Po­lice said the driver and the pas­sen­ger were lucky to sur­vive the crash.

Lolly ban­dit

A Fin­ley school’s can­teen was bro­ken into overnight be­tween Tues­day and Wed­nes­day last week.

Drinks, chips, ice-creams and lol­lies were stolen.

It’s un­sure how the thieves gained en­try into the can­teen. Any­one with in­for­ma­tion is asked to con­tact Fin­ley Po­lice.
