Meet the can­di­dates

All can­di­dates con­test­ing the seat of Mur­ray have been in­vited to a re­gional Meet the Can­di­dates fo­rum to­mor­row evening.

A big field of 10 can­di­dates will con­test the state elec­tion, which is less than two weeks away.

The Meet the Can­di­dates fo­rum will be held at the De­niliquin RSL Club Mount­bat­ten Room this Thurs­day, March 14 from 7pm.

The 10 can­di­dates for Mur­ray in bal­lot or­der are:

Philip Lang­field - Chris­tian Demo­cratic Party (Fred Nile Group)

Tom Weyrich - Pauline Han­son’s One Na­tion Ni­vanka De Silva - The Greens Brian Mills - In­de­pen­dent He­len Dal­ton - Shoot­ers, Fish­ers and Farm­ers Carl Ken­dall - Sus­tain­able Aus­tralia Alan Pur­till - Coun­try La­bor Liam Davies - Keep Syd­ney Open Austin Evans - The Na­tion­als David Lan­dini - In­de­pen­dent The fo­rum is be­ing or­gan­ised by the Speak Up Cam­paign.

Chair Shel­ley Scoullar said wa­ter pol­icy, health and ed­u­ca­tion were cer­tain to be key top­ics at the fo­rum, plus other is­sues of in­ter­est and con­cern to res­i­dents.

She said it was an op­por­tu­nity for vot­ers to be bet­ter in­formed when they vote in this vi­tal elec­tion on March 23.

‘‘We have se­ri­ous is­sues which need to be ad­dressed, not the least be­ing im­pacts of the Basin Plan and the need for im­proved health ser­vices. The poor state of ed­u­ca­tion fa­cil­i­ties has also been raised as a mat­ter of con­cern.

‘‘This will be one of the most im­por­tant state elec­tions in the his­tory of our re­gion. We must have a po­lit­i­cal rep­re­sen­ta­tive who is able to ef­fec­tively ad­vo­cate for our needs.

‘‘I en­cour­age peo­ple to at­tend the fo­rum so in­formed de­ci­sions are made at the bal­lot box,’’ Mrs Scoullar said.

The Speak Up Cam­paign has started its 2019 mem­ber­ship drive and mem­bers will be on hand from 6.30pm to ac­cept new mem­ber­ships and re­newals.

Any­one in­ter­ested in pre­sent­ing a spe­cific ques­tion to can­di­dates at the fo­rum is asked to email the ques­tion to speakup4wa­[email protected] Ques­tions will also be taken from the floor on the night.
