Landscaping loan secured
Berrigan Sportsground committee has successfully secured a $9000 loan from the Berrigan Shire Council to improve landscaping around the netball courts.
Last year the netball courts received $225,000 in round one of the NSW government Stronger Countries Communities Fund to upgrade the courts.
According to Berrigan Shire director of corporate services Matt Hansen, it’s the last project that needs to be built around the netball courts,
Mr Hansen said the landscaping project will cost about $30,000.
‘‘The netball club has already chipped in $20,000 and they felt ‘let’s get this over and done with before the start of the season’ so they don’t need to worry about it for another 25 to 30 years.
‘‘The netball club volunteers have been brilliant with the working bees they’ve held in the off-season.
‘‘It’s a simple landscaping upgrade just to make the path between the clubrooms and courts more welcoming,’’ Mr Hansen said.
The Berrigan Showgrounds new electronic scoreboard has been ordered by the Berrigan Shire with the hope it will be installed before the start of the football season.
‘‘It’s not a massive concern but it’s quite a busy time for scoreboards across Victoria, so it might have to wait a couple of weeks into the season,’’ Mr Hansen said.
