Expo to promote our region

- By Nick Arnold

A new initiative to inform Tocumwal residents and bolster local service clubs, community and special interest groups has been launched.

The Tocumwal War Memorial Committee is hosting a community expo this October with that goal in mind.

It is now calling for expressions of interest from groups and clubs wishing to be involved.

Committee treasurer and one of the event coordinators, Sue Braybon, said the inspiration behind the event was a realisation that some in the community were unaware of their own group.

“There are many people who are unaware of the halls existence, and the work that our committee does for the upkeep and improvements.

“We had an open day recently and people were blown away with what was behind our doors. So this event lets people find us as well, in anticipation of further bookings.

“The idea of the event is to showcase there many different groups active in Tocumwal and encourage members of the public to get involved in community organisations.

“The evening will give clubs, groups, organisations and committees the exposure that they might not normally have the opportunity to get and will act as an ice breaker and dispel the feeling of uncertainty for individuals when joining a new group.”

Mrs Braybon said the committee has already started contacting local community groups about being involved, and encouraged any others to come forward as contact details or knowledge of their existence may be unknown.

She said flyers will be going out to all households in the Tocumwal area early in September.

The free entry expo has been set for Friday, October 14 at the Tocumwal War Memorial Hall between 4pm and 7pm.

Any groups or clubs wishing to be involved are invited to contact the committee at tocumwalwmhall@gmail.com. RSVPs must be received by September 30, after which more details will be provided.
