Monthly meet a teaser for anniversary
There will be the usual regular monthly judging tables, with September’s three special themes being one collared camellia stem, three bulbs in pot or stems in water and stem of tree blossoms in water.
Contributions are required for the monthly swap and freebie tables.
Table judges are Bernadette Gray and Mary Beattie.
There will be a presentation on all types of dahlias by Ron Clarke from Invergordon.
This will be just a taste of when Ron visits for the club’s 60th anniversary luncheon, and also brings his passion for chrysanthemums.
Everyone is welcome to join in the anniversary celebrations at the Finley RS Club on Wednesday, September 28.
Tickets are available and includes a lucky door prize, presentations by Garden Clubs of Australia and Ron Clarke.
Members, please remember plants will be required for the plant trading table at this luncheon.

Ed Phillis, the instigator of the Finley and Surrounding Towns Facebook site, is looking forward to meeting up with several former and current residents at the reunion which has been planned for this Saturday.
The reunion will take place at the Finley RS Club with a catch up from 2pm to 5.30pm.
It will continue through the evening with music and dancing, accompanied by Ray Macartney.
Bookings for a meal at the club are essential, and can be made by calling 5883 1366 to secure a table.
The three Finley museums will be open prior to the festivities for those who wish to see the great displays containing numerous items of historical interest.
Finley Foundry Museum and Finley Historical Museum and Log Cabin will open from 10am to 2pm, and the Finley Railway Museum from 10am to noon.
Each of the museums has a Facebook site for details of their displays.
This is a great opportunity for those returning to the town to catch up on local history.

The Finley Regional Care Auxiliary street stall held recently was a great success.
The organisers would like to express their appreciation to all who assisted in any way, and the community for its continuing support.
Bob Poore was the winner of the $50 Haynes Butchery voucher, and the beautifully handcrafted bag was won by Paul Scarf.
Ashley Haynes Butchery originally donated the voucher for the Finley Regional Care Monster Christmas raffle.
It was won by Kerry Lang-Smith, who generously donated it back to be used in future fundraising.

The Finley Lions Club members have decided to continue the Saturday morning wood raffle though to the end of September, as it is proving to be such a popular fundraiser.
Malcolm Holm was the lucky winner of last Saturday’s trailer load of wood.

The Finley MenShed appeal for expressions of interest in making the facilities available to women has been met with an enthusiastic response - particularly with the opportunity of carrying out mosaic works.
A date for a meeting to discuss plans to bring this to fruition will be held in the near future.

The Finley Amateur Dramatic and Musical Society (FADAMS) has very generously decided to make a donation to the Finley School of Arts committee.
It will help meet the cost of a dishwasher, with the donation made possible following a successful year in performance and finance.
This was done in appreciation for the annual use of the venue, which has been extensively renovated and facilities updated recently.

The Finley Garden Lovers Club’s September meeting will be held at the Finley RS Club this Monday at 2pm.
The Finley Uniting Church service will be held at 10am this Sunday.
After the service, a light lunch will be shared. Services will return to the usual time of 11am from September 11

The next meeting of the Finley Combined Probus Club will be held on Tuesday, September 6 commencing at 10am.
The meeting will be held at the Finley Uniting Church Hall in Coree St, Finley.
Guest speaker for the August meeting was Ms Rosemary Kayess via Zoom from Sydney.
Rosemary graduated from UNSW with a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) in 1994 and a Bachelor of Laws in 2004.
Since then, she has earned an Associate Diploma of Management (Community Organisation) and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law.
When Rosemary was 20, she sustained a spinal injury in a car accident, which brought about her disability and led to her becoming a disability rights activist.
She became interested in disability policy because it was what she “understood and could relate to”.
Also, with having a disability it kept her on a “less traditional academic path” because of physical access and flexibility.
Rosemary is an Australian human rights lawyer, disability rights activist, researcher and academic.
She is a senior research fellow at the UNSW Faculty of Law and the chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and has contributed to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2004.
She has recently been elected for a second term chair of this Committee.
In 2019 Rosemary was awarded the Australian Human Rights Medal for her contributions to human rights in Australia.
