Appeal for funds to join Murray River Bird Trail

- By Alexandra Wilson bddatreasurer1@

A fundraiser to have Berrigan Shire included in the popular Murray River Bird Trail has begun.

Proposed for Berrigan is a gaint galah sculpture, which ties in with the designs used in town promotions.

The Murray River Bird Trail project is a collaboration between ‘Tank’ from Tank Art and Steve Tobin from Heavy Metal Art.

It already includes a pair of blue wrens, a trio of giant cockatoos named ‘Ned’, ‘Rosie’, and ‘Mathilde’, and a Kookaburra called ‘Kenny’ in other district communities.

The trail attracts travellers and tourists alike and is promoted as a point of interest along the Murray.

The Berrigan & District Development Association (BDDA) said the galah would best represent the community.

It has identified several sites, with its preferred option to have the galah in the main street to encourage people to stop and stroll in the centre of town.

Costing $16,335, the project already has a $3,300 contribution from the BDDA locked in.

The BDDA has also applied for a $3,035 grant.

It’s now seeking business and community support for the balance of the project.

Businesses who donate will be entitled to advertising displayed in close proximity to the sculpture, and included in BDDA social promotional material.

Sponsorship packages of between $100 and $500 are offered.

Individual or family contributions will also be gratefully accepted.

The BDDA is also looking into other artworks for the town to compliment the already existing mosaic and mural works around Berrigan.

If you would like to donate, contact the BDDA before September 30 by emailing
