Planning gong for The Village at Wellard
A housing development in Wellard, home to more than 3000 people, has been named the best masterplanned development at the 2015 Urban Development Institute of Australia (WA) Awards for Excellence.
The Village at Wellard development is a partnership between the WA Government’s Housing Authority and Peet Limited and is expected to expand to 7000, representing 14.2 per cent of Kwinana’s projected population in 2021.
The development was also a finalist in the sustainable urban development category.
Housing Minister Colin Holt said The Village at Wellard was a shining example of transit-oriented developments where residents benefit from easy access to public transport and are in proximity to essential services, shops, open spaces, cafes and other amenities.
“The industry recognition further validates this Government’s preference to work with the private sector to deliver high quality, affordable developments,” Mr Holt said.
“The Village at Wellard was 12 years in the making and continues to be one of the best-selling estates in Perth,” the minister said.
“This is a testament to its excellent design and strong focus on affordability, community and sustainability.”
