Artists to make a splash
Rockingham artists have explored their creative minds to produce works to the theme of Girt by Sea for a pop-up exhibition this weekend.
Rockingham Regional Arts president Lorri Skinner invited residents to attend the exhibition, which opens at the Rockingham Arts Centre on Friday, and see how its members interpreted the theme.
“Girt by Sea is about Australia and the sea, but it will be interesting to see how the creative process has unfolded,” she said.
“It was designed to stimulate creativity.”
Secretary Beth Law said attendees could also get creative on the Sunday if they wanted by taking part in a collage workshop.
“Fun with Collage is a great way to use up your magazines but it’s also a great way of exploring colour, shape and texture,” she said.
“It’s an old technique which involves torn paper, not photos, merged together.
“Once done, you can get inspiration from sections to create paintings — it’s a way of stimulating ideas.”
The exhibition opens on Friday at 6.30pm and runs from 9.30am to 4pm, Saturday to Monday.
The collage workshop, for a gold coin donation, runs from 9am to 11am.
