Work­shop ex­plores men­tal ben­e­fits of art

The ben­e­fits of art on men­tal health will be ex­plored at the Art of Well­be­ing work­shop in Kwinana on Oc­to­ber 7, as part of Men­tal Health Week.

Held at Me­d­ina Hall, the work­shop, pre­sented by the Dis­abil­ity Ser­vices Com­mis­sion and the City of Kwinana, is aimed at in­creas­ing aware­ness of men­tal health and con­nect­ing peo­ple with the health providers in the re­gion.

NDIS My Way re­gional di­rec­tor Rus­sell Smith said peo­ple with dis­abil­i­ties and their fam­i­lies needed ac­cu­rate in­for­ma­tion so they could make choices which best met their needs.

An event spokes­woman said the day in­volved a va­ri­ety of up­lift­ing ac­tiv­i­ties such as art ses­sions, re­lax­ation tech­niques, morn­ing tea and gi­ant lawn games.

She en­cour­aged all Kwinana res­i­dents to at­tend to cre­ate ab­stract pieces of art.

The expo starts at 9am and will fin­ish at 1pm.
