Train carriage U-turn angers McGowan

Southern Telegraph - - News -

The State Government’s decision to shelve plans to buy 300 more train carriages was slammed by Rockingham MLA and State Opposition Leader Mark McGowan on Monday.

Mr McGowan said he caught the train from Rockingham to Perth on Monday morning and people were “jammed in like sardines”.

He said the stations closest to the Perth CBD were particularly crowded and the State Government needed to provide additional carriages for WA’s growing population.

The $1.2 billion promise was made in the last State Budget but looks as if it could be scrapped because of the State’s weakening financial position.
