Locals make State team
Four talented gymnasts from Stellar Gymsports in Port Kennedy have been selected to represent WA at next month’s Border Challenge in Queensland.
Tiffany Williams, 12, Charlize Dymond, 14, and Eve SchreiberWood, 11, will compete at the Caloundra Indoor Stadium from June 24 to 26 after they each received top scores in trials at Gymnastics WA in Leederville.
Anushke van Niekerk, 10, has been named as a reserve on the squad and also won the all-round gold medal at the recent Gymnastics WA State Championships in her National Level 6 age group.
Each will take on the international order of apparatus — vault, bars, beam and floor.
Head coach Lorraine Fisher said the girls were extremely dedicated to their sport, training for about 12 hours a week year round with coach Abbie Quarmby.
“They train with great dedication and self-discipline and they all deserve their wonderful results,” she said.
“The girls are all very skilled on all the apparatus — particularly on the floor thanks to some hard work from our coach.
“The WA team is made up of six and three of those are girls from our gym, which is a fantastic result.”
The competitors will travel with their families and will be guided by a WA State coach.
The champion quad are part of the 366 gymnasts registered at Stellar Gymsports, which caters to participants aged two to 14 years.
