Koor­liny’s Chicago shines at awards

Koor­liny Arts Cen­tre’s pro­duc­tion of Chicago stole the show at the 43rd an­nual Fin­ley Awards, scoop­ing up a host of awards in­clud­ing best mu­si­cal last week­end.

For Chicago, Jon Lam­bert was named the best sup­port­ing ac­tor in a mu­si­cal, Kim An­gus won best di­rec­tor of a mu­si­cal, and Allen Blach­ford was awarded best chore­og­ra­phy.

The show was also awarded an ad­ju­di­ca­tor’s cer­tifi­cate for “fan­tas­tic male en­sem­ble”.

Con­tin­u­ing the win­ning streak, Genevieve New­man won best ac­tress in a mu­si­cal and Bella Freeman won the Veron­ica Over­ton Low Award for Youth in a Mu­si­cal — both for their per­for­mances in Ruth­less.

An ad­ju­di­ca­tor’s cer­tifi­cate was also awarded to Ruth­less for “seam­less set change”.

Koor­liny Arts Cen­tre’s pro­duc­tion of Step­ping Out also won the best cos­tumes in a play award.

Gen­eral man­ager Kate McIn­tosh said it was pleas­ing the skills and tal­ents of peo­ple in­volved in com­mu­nity the­atre were be­ing ac­knowl­edged.

“It’s a won­der­ful re­sult for Koor­liny and goes a long way to­wards boost­ing Kwinana’s im­age as a place to en­joy qual­ity the­atre,” she said.

“We would like to thank ev­ery­one in­volved in our shows this year and the Kwinana In­dus­tries Coun­cil and the City of Kwinana for their on­go­ing sup­port and be­lief in us.”

The Koor­liny Arts Cen­tre and Kwinana In­dus­tries Coun­cil 2018 per­for­mance sea­son will in­clude Rock of Ages, Mur­der on the Nile, and End of the Rain­bow.
