Koorliny’s Chicago shines at awards
Koorliny Arts Centre’s production of Chicago stole the show at the 43rd annual Finley Awards, scooping up a host of awards including best musical last weekend.
For Chicago, Jon Lambert was named the best supporting actor in a musical, Kim Angus won best director of a musical, and Allen Blachford was awarded best choreography.
The show was also awarded an adjudicator’s certificate for “fantastic male ensemble”.
Continuing the winning streak, Genevieve Newman won best actress in a musical and Bella Freeman won the Veronica Overton Low Award for Youth in a Musical — both for their performances in Ruthless.
An adjudicator’s certificate was also awarded to Ruthless for “seamless set change”.
Koorliny Arts Centre’s production of Stepping Out also won the best costumes in a play award.
General manager Kate McIntosh said it was pleasing the skills and talents of people involved in community theatre were being acknowledged.
“It’s a wonderful result for Koorliny and goes a long way towards boosting Kwinana’s image as a place to enjoy quality theatre,” she said.
“We would like to thank everyone involved in our shows this year and the Kwinana Industries Council and the City of Kwinana for their ongoing support and belief in us.”
The Koorliny Arts Centre and Kwinana Industries Council 2018 performance season will include Rock of Ages, Murder on the Nile, and End of the Rainbow.
