Southern Telegraph - - Telegraph | News - MARK MCGOWAN Mark McGowan is the WA Premier and Member for Rockingham.

There are lots of exciting events and activities happening in Rockingham over 2018.

The new year will start off with the annual Rockingham New Year’s Eve celebrations on the foreshore.

I am pleased the State Government has been able to contribute $20,000, through Lotterywest, to this event and to Rockingham’s annual Australia Day festivities.

In April, the Commonwealth Games baton will travel through Rockingham ahead of the Gold Coast games.

This is really exciting for residents and businesses in the area and will put Rockingham on the map yet again.

In 2018 my government is also focused on expanding community infrastructure and delivering on our Rockingham election commitments. Last year, we announced a $900,000 Lotterywest grant for the City of Rockingham, to help build the Baldivis South Community Centre.

With construction expected to begin in 2018 and conclude in mid-2019, the centre will provide a whole range of new community facilities, creating opportunities for local residents and community groups to interact.

We have also been busy delivering on our Local Jobs, Local Projects commitments in Rockingham.

I’m looking forward to seeing the new scoreboards and floor resurfacing at Mike Barnett Sports Centre and the upgrades to the Rockingham Tennis Club clubroom as they take shape.

Remember to stay safe, enjoy the summer and best of luck for a happy and successful 2018.
