Dolltastic show to share tales via burlesque
Residents will get a taste of the Fringe World Festival this month with performances by Rockinghambased Dolltastic Burlesque’s main dance troupe The Diamond Dogs.
The Diamond Dogs’ popular show Once Upon a Burlesque is a celebration of femininity and all body types and will be on show at Medina Hall as part of the Fringe World 2018 program.
Audience members will enjoy the retelling of popular fairytales through the art of burlesque, including bewitching feather boa manipulations, mesmerising feather fan dances and other showstopping acts.
Dolltastic Burlesque studio opened its doors to students in January, 2013, and caters to all levels of dancers, with classes ranging from tease and showgirl to go-go and neo.
The Diamond Dogs perform several big shows throughout the year in a variety of locations around Perth and can be booked for special events.
“It’s really exciting for us to be a part of Fringe World and to bring the show to the Peel region is just the cherry on top,” Dolltastic Burlesque manager Bonnie Bella said. “We’ve always been in Rockingham so it has been really special to us that we can perform this amazing show under Fringe World and also stay close to home.”
As well as being a locally owned studio on Dixon Road, local food vendors will provide their services at the performance.
“We’re all for keeping things local and supporting small businesses,” Ms Bella said.
Ms Bella said she hoped bringing Fringe World to the area would open a window for talent in the Rockingham and Peel region to shine.
“This area has been really up and coming in the last few years . . . and could benefit from a more thriving arts and entertainment scene,” she said.
“We’re real women with everyday lives, ranging from all body types and celebrating our bodies and femininity.”
Once Upon a Burlesque will be performed at the Medina Hall in Kwinana on January 27 and February 10 at 5pm and 8.30pm.
There are also three teaser shows on February 3 at 5pm and 8.30pm, and February 16 at 8.30pm.
The show is restricted to people 18 years and older.
