Com­mu­nity cen­tres in the spot­light

The Frank Konecny Com­mu­nity Cen­tre will cel­e­brate Neigh­bour­hood Cen­tre Week on Satur­day.

The week, which runs from April 30 to May 6, cel­e­brates com­mu­nity cen­tres and the com­mu­nity-build­ing work they do.

Linkwest chief ex­ec­u­tive and chair­woman of the Aus­tralian Neigh­bour­hood Houses and Cen­tres As­so­ci­a­tion Jane Chilcott said for the se­cond year run­ning the theme was “be­long­ing”.

The Frank Konecny Com­mu­nity Cen­tre is one of only three in WA to host a launch and has in­vited the com­mu­nity to come and see what they do first-hand.

Other high­lights in­clude ac­tiv­i­ties and demon­stra­tions and the chance to meet lo­cal com­mu­nity rep­re­sen­ta­tives and part­ner or­gan­i­sa­tions.

Frank Konecny Com­mu­nity Cen­tre chair­woman Yvonne Ham­mill said it pro­vided a safe and wel­com­ing en­vi­ron­ment and an op­por­tu­nity for ev­ery­one to feel in­cluded.

Cen­tre com­mu­nity li­ai­son of­fi­cer Erin Sergeant said com­mu­nity cen­tres strived to em­power com­mu­nity mem­bers to gain prac­ti­cal life skills and de­velop so­cial well­be­ing.

The Frank Konecny Cen­tre’s neigh­bour­hood cen­tre event is on Satur­day, from 11am to 2pm.
