A new initiative has started in an attempt to provide Rockingham and Kwinana students with the skills to transition from school to employment.

Rockingham Centre and Beacon Foundation have launched Light the Way, aiming to reduce youth unemployment and disengagement.

An event will take place on May 26 at the Rockingham Centre to raise money for the initiative.

Rockingham Centre manager Aaron Bennett said Light the Way was an opportunity for the community to come together and support the work of the Beacon Foundation.

“We are proud to work with Beacon to engage young people in Rockingham to achieve career success and help alleviate issues of unemployment,” he said. “Rockingham Centre and Vicinity Centres will match every dollar raised during our Light the Way campaign, which will ensure the Beacon programs continue to provide support (for) young people in our community.”
