Carter claims narrow victory
The largest-ever field for a Peel District Cycling Club Saturday race turned out at the weekend, with more than 135 riders on the start line at Casuarina.
With most of the A and Bgrade women choosing to race in B and C mixed grades, two riders in the advanced women’s race started with the women’s development race.
The pair provided advice for the first two laps to inexperienced riders, before taking off to race their own race for another four laps of the 8.7km course, with Adelia Neethling outsprinting Kirsty Turner to win the advanced women’s race.
The women’s development race stayed together for 31⁄ laps before a couple of attacks on the final lap saw the group splinter and Sally Carter take the win narrowly from Diane Humphrey, with Jodie Wood chasing the pair home in third place.
Next Sunday sees the West Coast Masters race at Dog Hill, while Peel District Cycling Club’s next race is at Dog Hill on Saturday, July 13.
