Studio potty for birthday
Rockingham Ceramics Studio is celebrating its fifth birthday this weekend with an exhibition to showcase some of its members work.
From an original group of six ceramic artists meeting on a Tuesday morning, the studio has grown to include beginners’ classes, workshops, exhibitions and community projects involving other disciplines and community groups. The studio is now open five days a week, with 11 groups and more than 40 members ranging from beginners to a core group of more advanced members who assist with teaching and running the studio.
Studio co-ordinator Bec Thomas also works closely with several local mental health services, offering discounted classes to people living in the Rockingham community with mental illness.
“Our studio provides a relaxed and social creative environment that allows people to escape their life for a few hours and enjoy playing and experimenting with clay,” she said. “Over the past five years we have become a close-knit family of like-minded artists and hobbyists who all look forward to attending each week.”
The exhibition’s opening night and birthday party will be held at the Rockingham Arts Centre on Friday from 7pm. The exhibition will be open from 9am-3pm on Saturday and Sunday.
