Bar­ron warms up for world champs

Rock­ing­ham Triathlon Club’s duathlon se­ries comes to a close with the last race of the se­ries this Sun­day from 8am at Fore­shore Drive, Sin­gle­ton.

In last week­end’s men’s short course race, Alex Bar­ron had a solid hit out be­fore the World Cham­pi­onships on the Gold Coast, eas­ing ahead of Alex Ka­putin and David Forbes, with Lucca McCon­nachie press­ing for the podium in his first show­ing with the club.

Nikki Pursell was in a hurry in the women’s short race, lay­ing down a su­per first run leg and did not hold back on the bike, leav­ing Kim­berly Smith, Sarah Corbin and Tara Walsh bat­tling for the mi­nor plac­ings with Smith sec­ond, ahead of Corbin.

The pace was boil­ing hot in the men’s long course.

Brett John­son led the way to se­cure the win from Wade Adam with Greg Man­ning third.

In up­com­ing events, the club’s Off Road Duathlon at Sloan Re­serve Leda will be on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 14, and the Char­ity Cup Fun Run is at Rock­ing­ham beach on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 28.
