Man fined over mar­ron

A Shoal­wa­ter man will have to pay $3105.30 af­ter he was caught il­le­gally tak­ing mar­ron out of sea­son.

David Ge­orge Miller, 50, did not ap­pear dur­ing his hear­ing in Man­jimup Mag­is­trate’s Court on Thurs­day, Septem­ber 27, but is­sued a writ­ten plea of guilty.

The court was told that about 6pm on De­cem­ber 28 last year, Miller, along with Sal­ter Point man Cameron James Lang, set three baited fish traps in the War­ren River, near Pem­ber­ton, re­mov­ing the traps from the wa­ter the next morn­ing, and tak­ing away nine mar­ron.

They were fined for possess­ing mar­ron in a non-pos­ses­sion pe­riod and for fish­ing for mar­ron with il­le­gal gear.
