Budding photographers were recognised last Wednesday for their creativity in capturing local stories at the 10th annual Act-Belong-Commit PhotoVoice Rockingham awards night.

The competition encouraged amateur photographers to capture images based on the theme standing strong together.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the judges had a tough decision in choosing winners with a high standard of photography entered.

“It was a difficult task to scale the 500 entries down to 101 finalists to display throughout the centre,” he said. “With so many outstanding entries the judging did not just focus on one aspect of criteria. . . but the quality of the photo, the quality of the voice in the photo and how the photo and the voice relates to the theme.”

Thirty-seven amateur photographers were acknowledged on the night across 17 different categories.
