Student fundraisers Try hard for Telethon

Southern Telegraph - - News -

Students from Rockingham Senior High School have again made a significant contribution to Telethon, handing over a cheque for $26,500 at the event over the weekend.

Teacher Isaac Thomas, along with students Waaka Hepi, Ankia Meintjes and Sabrina McCayTuckerman presented the cheque live on TV on Sunday morning.

The school raised the money during its Tryathon event in July, with more than 300 students participating.

The students were sponsored by friends, family and members of the community to run, walk, or jog 100m laps up and down the high school’s rugby field.

Fundraiser co-ordinator and RSHS Rugby League Academy coordinator Mr Thomas said the Tryathon was sparked by a desire to encourage his rugby students to give back to the community.

“Every year the students continue to make me so proud with their efforts and willingness to help others,” he said.

“The people of Rockingham also continue to amaze me with their generosity and enormous donations.

“It really becomes a whole community affair and the school couldn’t be happier.”

RSHS has raised more than $100,000 for Telethon in the past five years.
