Big heads among books

Southern Telegraph - - Entertainment -

Two City of Rockingham libraries will come to life with art during November as pieces from the Big Head Art Project go on display at the Rockingham Central Library and the Mary Davies Library and Community Centre.

The project was inspired by the artistic efforts of 16 children who took part in the Art Explosion October school holiday program at the Rockingham Arts Centre.

Facilitated by artists Jacq Chorlton and Carol Clitheroe, children aged eight to 12 used their papier mache skills to create large, wearable, colourful heads.

Mayor Barry Sammels encouraged the community to see the big heads up close.

“With support from two fantastic artists in Jacq Chorlton and Carol Clitheroe, the children who took part in the Art Explosion October school holiday program have created some

fantastic pieces of art,” he said. “Visitors to both the Rockingham Central Library and the Mary Davies Library and Community Centre will be greeted by the artwork as they search the shelves for their favourite books.”

They will be on display at the Mary Davies Library and Community Centre from November 5-16 and the Rockingham Central Library from November 19-30.
