Another year is drawing to a close and this busy time of the year does not look like it will be slowing down just yet.
I was pleased to recently be part of the 40th Anniversary celebration of my old high school, Safety Bay Senior High. It was great to reminisce about my teenage years and to see that the school is still going strong. In October I spent three days living and working with Defence personnel on HMAS Stirling. This was a great opportunity to meet the women and men working on Garden Island and to learn more about the important work of the Royal Australian Navy. At the end of the month I also farewelled the HMAS Ballarat, leaving Garden Island for a nine-month mission. Good luck to the crew – you are all a very important part of our community.
In parliament, the last few months have been nothing short of memorable. I was humbled to have been present for the national apology to victims and survivors of child sexual abuse. This is a day that should have come sooner and one that I hope will help with healing.
The most recent weeks of parliament saw a big win for WA and our ongoing campaign to get a fair share of the GST. WA will be $4.7 billion better off over 8 years.
My shadow ministerial portfolio is keeping me busy working on some important issues - the Takata airbag recall, fake honey and the unacceptable industry of payday lending and ticket scalping.
Over the next few weeks I will be spending my time between Rockingham, Kwinana, and Canberra. On Friday 30 November I will be hosting the Baldivis Christmas Carols with Reece Whitby MLA at Mother Teresa Catholic College, Baldivis. I will be at the Frank Konecny Children’s Christmas Party on December 8 followed by the Kwinana Christmas Carols in the evening which I will be hosting with Roger Cook MLA.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy holiday season.
I hope to see you at the Baldivis and Kwinana Christmas Carols!
