Duo face court over al­leged par­cel theft

A cou­ple have ap­peared in Rock­ing­ham Mag­is­trate’s Court charged with pos­ses­sion of stolen or un­law­fully ob­tained prop­erty af­ter they were al­legedly caught with 72 post parcels late last year.

Dur­ing the man and woman’s ap­pear­ance, the court was told be­tween Oc­to­ber 1 and De­cem­ber 31, 2017, the cou­ple were found with the parcels, which con­tained var­i­ous items in­clud­ing elec­tron­ics, cloth­ing and cos­met­ics.

The man and woman both pleaded not guilty to the charges and will ap­pear in court in Jan­uary. Dur­ing the hear­ing, the cou­ple had the as­sis­tance of an in­ter­preter, but af­ter speak­ing with the ac­cused, Mag­is­trate Leanne Atkins said she did not be­lieve they needed an in­ter­preter for their trial al­lo­ca­tion date and re­fused to grant their ap­pli­ca­tion.
