A Shoal­wa­ter phar­macy has helped

12 of its pa­tients lose a com­bined

17kg over the past three weeks as part of a weight-loss cam­paign to help make Rock­ing­ham 100kg lighter this sum­mer.

Ac­cord­ing to data from the Depart­ment of Health, about two-thirds of WA’s pop­u­la­tion is over­weight or obese.

With sev­eral health con­di­tions, in­clud­ing di­a­betes and high blood pres­sure, linked to obe­sity, Phar­macy

777 Shoal­wa­ter’s Sam Af­sar is hop­ing to help im­prove health in Rock­ing­ham and the sur­round­ing sub­urbs through the cam­paign, which pro­vides weight-loss ad­vice to clients ac­cord­ing to their in­di­vid­ual needs. “We’re en­cour­ag­ing peo­ple to de­ci­sion to live a health­ier life, the mar­ket is so saturated with weight-loss pro­grams and di­ets, and not all of them are suit­able for ev­ery­one.

“Pa­tients need to know which one would suit their health the best.

“We will work with in­di­vid­u­als to cre­ate a plan which takes into ac­count all other health con­di­tions and mo­bil­ity lim­i­ta­tions.

“We will also work in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the pa­tient’s GP and other health pro­fes­sion­als so that the best out­come is achieved.”

The cam­paign be­gan last month and is set to end in Fe­bru­ary.
