Murder accused makes brief appearance

Southern Telegraph - - NEWS - Gabrielle Knowles

A Wellard man accused of murdering a stranger had been in Graylands Hospital just a day before the incident.

Jesse de Beaux, 23, was a voluntary patient at the Mt Claremont mental health facility but left the day before he was accused of killing Cara Hales on December 28, who was a stranger to him. It is unclear how long he had been at the hospital

Questions have been raised about whether Mr de Beaux was appropriately assessed as to whether he posed a risk to himself or others after he allegedly forced his way into Ms Hales’ Henderson Road house in Munster and fatally stabbed her.

De Beaux made a brief appearance in Perth Magistrate’s Court on December 30, only speaking to say he understood the charge against him. He did not apply for bail and was not required to enter a plea, with the case adjourned until later this month.
