Council’s high- rise policy will destroy our beachfront

Southern Telegraph - - OPINION -

While I sympathise with your reader’s letter ( 23/ 1) complaining about the Rockingham council looking to allow 12- storey buildings along the beachfront, I have to say that horse has well and truly bolted.

The floodgates were thrown open when they allowed the first of the block of flats to be built some years back. This council has been hell- bent on ruining what’s left ever since.

What was once a unique piece of an early West Australian beachfront could quite easily have been restored instead of being bulldozed to make way for those ugly lumps of concrete.

And they haven’t finished yet; wait til you see the new marina. There goes the beach.

It’ll be interesting to see who ends up owning any of these high- rise flats. Nigel Youens Hillman
