Man faces jail time over con­tract fraud

A man who has ad­mit­ted fraud­u­lently se­cur­ing more than $ 75,000 in con­tracts with the City of Cock­burn will be sen­tenced next month.

John Stu­art Turner ap­peared in Rock­ing­ham Mag­is­trate’s Court last Fri­day, where he pleaded guilty to three charges of gain­ing ben­e­fit by fraud.

The court was told be­tween Fe­bru­ary 6 and 9 last year, Turner ac­cepted a con­tract worth $ 21,000.

Be­tween March 23 and 28, he also ac­cepted a con­tract worth $ 32,000, and on May 23 ac­cepted an­other worth $ 24,000.

Mag­is­trate Leanne Atkins told Turner he should “be un­der no il­lu­sions” and he could face prison time.

He is due to ap­pear in court again for sen­tenc­ing next month.
