Charges af­ter man aban­dons car in Bal­divis

Po­lice ar­rested a man af­ter an in­ci­dent in the early hours of Sun­day morn­ing in Lakelands.

About 12.20am, Man­durah po­lice of­fi­cers were con­duct­ing pa­trols of the area when they saw a Holden Com­modore sedan trav­el­ling along Lake Val­ley Drive in an er­ratic man­ner.

When the of­fi­cers ac­ti­vated their emer­gency lights and sirens to get the ve­hi­cle to stop, the driver al­legedly ac­cel­er­ated away in an at­tempt to evade them.

The Com­modore was al­legedly driven through mul­ti­ple sub­urbs be­fore the driver aban­doned the ve­hi­cle on Camelot Street in Bal­divis and ran into nearby bush­land.

Three oc­cu­pants of the ve­hi­cle were taken into cus­tody af­ter po­lice dog Faus­tus was de­ployed and tracked the driver to his hid­ing place be­hind bushes.

The 20- year- old man of no fixed ad­dress was charged with fail­ing to com­ply with a di­rec­tion to stop, reck­less driv­ing to es­cape pur­suit by po­lice, hav­ing no au­thor­ity to drive, pos­sess­ing cannabis and methy­lam­phetamine, and pos­sess­ing a pro­hib­ited weapon.
